7 Deadly Sins of Social Media | Online Marketing News & Reviews

Sara | Nov 27, 2012 | 0 comments

Growing up you were taught the difference between right and wrong. However, did you always do the right thing? Even if it didn?t benefit you? Just as it applies to childhood?adolescence? doing the right thing should be our motto throughout our adult life. But, do we still strive to be right at all times? If you are reading this you are more than likely a business owner or work on marketing for some type of business, probably through social media. Social Media has revolutionized the way?business?run and generate sales. If used right social media engages your customers and allows you to build a relationship with them, among other things, if used wrong it can be inefficient for your company.

See if your committing any of the 7 deadly social media sins

1. Wrath: Creating an online presence takes time and patience. However, once you have created an online social media presence you are bound to get critics. There are critics that create valuable insight for your company and then there are critics that give your business a less than desirable reputation. Focus on the critics that deserve a response and are worth your time. Never lash out, not only will it empty your energy but it will also make your company look terrible. Give feedback to those that deserve your feedback, this shows you care and value their opinion.

2. Greed:?It?s hard to shake hands when grabbing for their wallet.?Sure, we all create social media accounts for the main reason being, an increased ROI. However, if you choose to focus only on monetary profit you are missing out on the whole reasoning for social media. Social media is an avenue to create long lasting relationships with customers that will continue pursing your products/services. Give them a reason to keep coming back and let them know you appreciate their business. Customers love to feel appreciated and they love to have relationships with their suppliers.

3. Sloth: If you have social media sites but aren?t interactive on them or update them regularly you may be hurting yourself instead of helping. Why have social media accounts if your not posting on them? Depending on your schedule you may only be able to post once a week, but you are posting. It is better to be consistent rather than random so if you only post once a week that?s great! Just keep it consistent.

When receiving direct messages from customers, reply to them. This seems so common but it is commonly ignored. Don?t forget to let your customers know you care and you will take care of them. This builds your customer relationships and let?s you know where you can increase improvements.

4. Pride:?Stay humble.?Simply put, think about your customers, not you. Yes, it is your?business and?you?get to make all the calls and decisions. But you are ultimately striving for acceptance from your customers. Remember: you wouldn?t be where you are today without them. So appeal to them. Keep in mind what social media sites your customers are active on and be active on them as well. Yes, it may be a social media site that you don?t care for but your customers do. So the right thing to do is be where they are. Listen to your customers and you will be amazed at what will happen.

5. Lust: Social media can be a frustrating mess if you aren?t tackling it correctly. Like I said?earlier?building an online social media presence takes time and patience. You may only have a few friends or followers in the beginning but don?t?over think?it. Instead of randomly adding friends and following people that aren?t relevant to your business just sit back and wait. Customers need time to realize you are active on social media sites. Once they realize this they will find you and interact with you.

6. Envy: You may have a competitor that is doing better in the social media world than you are. Rather than wasting time worrying about what your doing wrong and they are doing right, focus on your business. See what your business has that differentiates it from competitors and focus on that. Being honest and humble on social media sites shows your real and trustworthy.

7. Gluttony: Overindulging is a common mistake when it comes to social media. We tend to oversell ourselves and?over saturate?our social sites. It seems common to think, ?The more I add, the better off I am, right?? Wrong. Think about when you are on social media sites. Do you tend to enjoy seeing interesting, real stories or sales promotions? The choice is obvious. Customers are online to gain interesting knowledge, interact with friends and family and as leisure activity. Apply your business to these areas and you will succeed.

Cheap Storage, Garage

Cheap Storage Ideas

For most people, a garage happens to be a really cluttered dumping ground where you may choose to put practically anything and everything which you no longer want in your house. In general, it becomes really difficult to find things as and when you require them. Your garage will also become really messy. Using some really cheap ideas, you will be able to make your garage look quite tidy. You may even be able to make room for a car.

Conduct a Garage Sale

Holding a garage sale happens to be one of the best ways to increase storage space. Get rid of all unwanted items for a weekend sale in your front yard. Get the neighbors involved in order to turn it into a really big event. It will make it really easy for you to organize the rest of the items. Some extra money can be made in the process.

Create Item Zones

You need to group like items into item zones. For instance, one area of the garage may be used solely for sporting goods. Another area may be used for automotive supplies and a third area may be used for gardening tools. You must keep the gardening items near a side door or the garage opening which allows easy access during really warm months.

Install Shelves

You are well advised to purchase inexpensive shelves for the garage walls or you need to make your own. You have to place smaller items in cardboard boxes and keep it on the shelves. Get them labeled so as to identify the contents. The lesser items you have on the floor, the more room you will have for bigger things

Make Use of the Ceiling

Cheap Storage Ideas

You need to use garage?s ceiling in an attempt to create additional floor space. You may use inexpensive hooks in order to hang items like bicycles, ropes, step ladders and cords safely during the winter months

Mobilize the Trash

If trash cans are kept in the garage, use those which have wheels it will be easier for you to create more storage space. If you store cans along the garage wall, you need to place additional shelving above the cans to use that space.

ANALYSIS: Judgment day looms for Rupert Murdoch

News analysis

LONDON -- Media mogul Rupert Murdoch, CNN anchor Piers Morgan and the entire British newspaper industry are braced for their very own judgment day.

Thursday will see the publication of a report by a major U.K. inquiry into the phone-hacking scandal. It will likely be one of the most important days in the history of the country's newspapers.

Early reports suggest that the findings will be ?excoriating.? In the language of the British tabloid press, the U.K.?s journalists are set to get ?a bloody good kicking.?

Led by a judge, Lord Justice Leveson's inquiry was set up after journalists, mostly from the now-closed News of the World, were accused of listening to people?s cell-phone messages to gain stories. The paper ? owned by Murdoch?s News Corporation -- even allegedly ?hacked? the voicemail of a murdered schoolgirl.

News Corporation ? home of Fox News, the National Geographic Channel, 20th Century Fox, and a host of newspapers -- appears to be back on its feet, recently buying into the Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network.

But if Lord Justice Leveson chooses to launch a high-profile attack on the Murdoch?s business practices then the multinational media giant could find itself facing another round of bad publicity.

Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against former News of the World editor Andy Coulson and former News International executive Rebekah Brooks for their alleged involvement in Britain's phone-hacking scandal. NBC's Michelle Kosinski reports from London.

UK PM's ex-aide, Murdoch protege face charges in phone-hacking scandal

What the Leveson inquiry looked at included what Murdoch?s son James, who was then head of News Corporation?s British newspaper arm, did and didn?t know about phone hacking. It went on to question the Murdochs? relations with British politicians.

It even asked whether the political support of Murdoch newspapers had been leveraged to gain commercial advantage for the Murdochs? television networks. Rupert Murdoch told the inquiry that such a suggestion was unfair ? he had ?never asked a prime minister for anything,? he said.?

Morgan will also be looking anxiously across the Atlantic to see what the Leveson inquiry concludes.

At the end of his evidence in December, Morgan, who was once editor of the News of the World and then the rival Mirror, said he felt like a rock star ?confronted with a back catalog of all his worst hits.?

?He made no fatal admission, but the cumulative effect of shifty denials and self-contradictions was awful,? wrote British commentator Michael White in the Guardian, the newspaper which uncovered the phone-hacking scandal.

But what matters now is what Leveson has to say. Morgan and the Murdochs await the judge?s verdict.

The British media will concentrate on the proposals for regulation of the newspaper industry.

But during the inquiry there was one issue that Lord Justice Leveson himself called ?the elephant in the room? -- the Internet.

Rupert Murdoch not 'a fit person' to run major company, UK lawmakers say

While the inquiry was still collecting evidence, two stories emerged that suggest Britain is no longer the home of the worst excesses of tabloid journalism.

First, U.S.-based website TMZ published pictures of Prince Harry cavorting naked with girls in a Las Vegas hotel room. Then a French magazine printed topless photographs of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, which were taken with a long lens while she was on holiday.

Prince William, Kate 'hugely saddened' by publication of topless photos

The pictures could be seen by anyone with a computer. And neither was reproduced by a British newspaper, except for News Corporation tabloid The Sun, which published the Harry snaps after days of consideration.?

Cameras are swarming Prince Harry once again, as he steps out for the first time since his Las Vegas photo scandal, but this time they are catching him doing good works, visiting sick children and appearing at the Paralympics. NBC's Michelle Kosinski reports.

Little wonder that The Economist described the Internet as ?A naked challenge to Lord Leveson.?

The Internet is awash with stories about the duchess, many of which are entirely speculative or plain wrong.

Clearly criminal wrongdoing by journalists will continue to be investigated. Charges against a list of Murdoch journalists await a court hearing. But when it comes to regulation -- Leveson?s main focus -- the Internet poses a challenge.

If Leveson ignores it and regulates British newspapers alone, he may shackle them to an increasingly insignificant existence amid falling sales. But if he proposes shutting down websites, he could be accused of trying to introduce China-style censorship laws.

Many will view it as a battle for the future of free speech in Britain.

Let the fiscal cliff road show begin

President Barack Obama and Republican House Speaker John Boehner meet at the White House on November 16 to discuss??President Barack Obama is ramping up efforts to win over Americans ? and pressure Congress ? on the looming fiscal cliff, with events at the White House and on the road to argue for the expiration of Bush-era tax cuts chiefly benefiting the rich.

The response from his top Republican foes? On Tuesday morning, Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell portrayed the president's outreach effort as an unserious distraction from negotiations with Congress. But minutes after McConnell's sharp-tongued criticism, Republican House Speaker John Boehner's office announced that his members would be countering the president's road-show with one of their own.

Obama was meeting Tuesday behind closed doors with 15 small-business owners from the retail, construction, and health care information technology sector. ?At the White House on Wednesday, the president planned to showcase Americans who would be affected if no deal can be reached to extend middle-class tax cuts. On Friday, Obama planned to travel to the Philadelphia suburb of Hatfield to make a speech at the Rodon Group manufacturing facility. Rodon is an American maker of K'NEX Brands, which include Tinkertoy, K'NEX, and Angry Bird Building Sets.

In a speech on the Senate floor, McConnell cast the White House efforts as little more than a public relations gambit.

"Rather than sitting down with lawmakers of both parties and working out an agreement, he's back out on the campaign trail, presumably with the same old talking points we're all familiar with," McConnell said. "Look: we already know the President is a very good campaigner. What we don't know is whether he has the leadership qualities necessary to lead his party to a bipartisan agreement on a big issue likes this."

But 26 minutes after a transcript of McConnell's remarks landed in reporters' in-boxes, Boehner's office made it clear that the House GOP would also be taking its sales pitch on the road.

Republican lawmakers planned to hold events with small businesses around the country warning that job creation will slow if taxes on small businesses are hiked, aides said.

Republicans have warned that Obama's push to let tax cuts expire on income over $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for families will hit some small businesses, a sector they often credit with fueling job growth. The president characterizes the tax increase -- a centerpiece of his successful reelection campaign -- as asking wealthier Americans to pay more in order to preserve popular government programs that might otherwise face steep cuts.

"Republicans understand that we must avert the fiscal cliff and have laid out a framework to do so that is consistent with the 'balanced' approach the President says he wants," Boehners spokesman Brendan Buck said. Buck accused some Democrats of ruling out "sensible spending cuts," notably overhauls of popular entitlement programs like Medicare, the government health care plan for seniors, and Medicaid, a state-federal program that provides health care to low income Americans.

The White House and Congressional Republicans profess eagerness to avoid the fiscal cliff, an economically toxic blend of tax increases and dramatic spending cuts that will go into effect January 1 unless at deal is reached on a far-reaching deficit-cutting plan (or an agreement is reached to push back what are Congressionally enacted deadlines that lawmakers can un-enact if the president signs on).

Obama spoke to Boehner and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid over the Thanksgiving weekend, but Republicans have complained that negotiations are at an impasse. One of the major roadblocks is the fight over whether to let tax rates on higher incomes revert to Clinton-era levels. The fiscal cliff fight could shape the direction of the nation's spending for a decade ? and it certainly amounts to Obama's first major test of post-election clout.

HP hit with civil securities lawsuit over Autonomy deal

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co was sued on Monday by an investor who claimed the company knew statements about its Autonomy acquisition were misleading and led the stock to fall, according to lawyers representing the plaintiff.

The proposed class action lawsuit was filed in a San Francisco federal court.

HP dropped a bombshell last Tuesday with an $8.8 billion write-down on its acquisition of British software firm Autonomy, saying the company inflated sales with improper accounting. Autonomy co-founder Mike Lynch has denied any wrongdoing.

HP bought Autonomy for a hefty $11.1 billion last year. HP has said it alerted regulators on both sides of the Atlantic.

The lawsuit, one of the first to be filed by investors on the Autonomy mess, said HP hid the fact it gained control of Autonomy based on financial statements that could not be relied upon. It also said that HP had not revealed to investors that it tried to undo the Autonomy agreement before it closed because of the accounting issues.

Save Money by Servicing the Air Conditioner

People postpone or neglect air conditioning servicing due to financial reasons. Some of them also feel it is worthless to spend money on a device which is already functioning properly. Usually, these kind of people end up paying a huge bill when the air conditioner stops working completely.

If we carefully consider it will be evident that we lose more by not spending for upkeep. If we add all the expenses we would have incurred and compare it with the bill we needed to pay at the time of repair, I am pretty sure the second amount will be bigger. It is also almost a certainty that if you don?t go for a regular servicing, your device will malfunction at least once within a year. You may pass the first year happily with a new AC but beware of what awaits you later!

These machines go bad usually due to the extreme temperature difference they suffer. Half of its inside the room where you have set the temperature to a cosy 22 degrees whereas the remaining part of it is outside the room where the sun is blazing and the temperature are in the forties. Electrical fluctuations, bad surge protection and manufacturing defects are among other major reasons of malfunctioning.

Air conditioners have many filters to keep away particles, germs and bacterias. These filters accumulate layers of dust over them and need to be cleaned periodically. If not, they will need to work harder to pass air through those. This brings extra pressure on them and also may damage the filters permanently which are costly to repair.

Everything gets devalued and there are several methods to calculate this depreciation.

The depreciation also means that the efficiency is less. A 3 years old air conditioner surely can't match a brand new one in performance. But you can do regular service checkups and keep the gap of performance to a tolerable limit. You can also keep the electricity bill within the budget by cleaning the inside filters timely. This saving and the saving of the huge repairing bill will surely more than the expenses you incur from regular upkeep.

Therefore it is important to give your air conditioner the attention it needs and well in time. It is a job for the professionals and gladly there are many professional such service providers in the Las Vegas area who are both reliable and low-cost.
