Cowell, 52, said of her death from bladder cancer: "I really admired Kerry and my thoughts now go out to all of her family and friends."
Sharon Osbourne, 59 ? Kerry's mentor on the series which Leona Lewis went on to win ? also took to Twitter. She said: "So sad about Kerry McGregor's passing. Much love and respect to her and her family."
The singer, of West Lothian, leaves partner Dean Robertson, 36, and son Joshua, seven.
