Baggage handling staff at Stansted airport have voted to strike during the Easter weekend, over claims that new shift patterns could result in pay cuts of up to ?1,000.
The BMG union representing baggage handlers at the airport said that members have voted ?overwhelmingly? for strike action, with walkouts set to take place on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.
GMB official Gary Pearce said that the union ?has offered several alternative shift patterns and working arrangements but the company refuses to listen so far?.
?I have notified Swissport of the ballot result and I have asked them for more talks to try to avert action over these pay cuts,? said Pearce.
?GMB members consider that Swissport [employers of the baggage handling staff] is attempting to make savings at their expense and they are not willing to agree to this.
?Unless there is urgent talks and a settlement, this vote for action this will result in disruption over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.?

Preventing and Treating Colorectal Cancer | flourish

We?ve read and heard a lot lately about?Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and the importance of regular screenings, managing lifestyle risk factors and understanding our family health history. But what is colorectal cancer, and what does it mean if a cancer, or pre-cancerous polyp is found?

First of all, although colorectal cancer is one of the more common cancers, it is important to understand that it is also one of the most treatable and preventable forms of the disease. If detected early, 80 to 90 percent of cases are curable.

Colorectal cancer usually develops slowly over several years with the tumor typically beginning as a noncancerous polyp. Polyps are small, tumor-like growths that can become cancerous. There are two types of colorectal cancer: colon cancer and rectal cancer. Colon cancer develops when cancerous cells form polyps in the longest part of the large intestine. Rectal cancer occurs when cancerous cells form polyps in the last few inches of the large intestine before reaching the anus.

The reason why we recommend everyone begin colonoscopy screenings at age 50 ? or age 45 for African Americans ? is, quite simply, because it saves lives. A colonoscopy can prevent cancer by detecting and removing polyps before they become cancerous, and can diagnose cancers at an early, more treatable stage. When colorectal cancer is found early, the patient benefits from less aggressive treatments and overall better outcomes.

If polyps are found, they can be removed during screening and tested for cancer. If found to be benign (noncancerous), there is no chance of them growing and becoming malignant (cancerous). If colorectal cancer is found, surgery is often the main treatment. In addition, chemotherapy and/or radiation may be recommended for certain cases.

Summa Health System has fellowship-trained laparoscopic surgeons, like myself, who have performed hundreds of benign and malignant cancer surgeries. The laparoscopic approach involves making four half-inch incisions on the abdomen ? as opposed to an eight to ten-inch incision on the abdomen in an open surgical procedure ? through which a camera and three instruments are placed to remove part of the colon.

Laparoscopic surgery has the same clinical outcomes as open surgery but with additional benefits including quicker recovery, less time in the hospital, less pain, less chance for wound complications and hernias, faster return to diet and an earlier return to normal life. Generally, patients are discharged after only two to three days in the hospital and return to activities can occur within one to two weeks.

Samsung Galaxy S ICS-like 'value pack' upgrade officially released in Korea

The so-called Value Pack upgrade that was leaked for original Samsung Galaxy S devices after the company announced they would not be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich (it was later given a passing mention in the Galaxy S II ICS upgrade notes) has been officially released, at least in Korea. The official Samsung Tomorrow page has a link to Gingerbread and Froyo upgrades for the Galaxy S, as well as the Galaxy K and Galaxy U phones. Just like the leaked version, it adds some Ice Cream Sandwich features to these non-Android 4.0 phones, including Face Unlock, the ability to take pictures while shooting video and launcher improvements, without the fully reworked underpinnings of the new OS. Owners of compatible devices can hit the source link for all the details and the files, as long as they have Kies 2.0 at the ready and a bit of open storage space (backing up existing data is also, naturally, encouraged). Of course whether this will officially come to any of our US-carrier optimized Galaxy S models is still unknown.

Just be careful that your diet is healthy overall.

Ask for help with some of your daily tasks. Things that involve heavy lifting, climbing and using chemicals should be avoided when you are pregnant. They can have a negative impact on both you and your unborn baby, so do not be shy about asking your partner or other family members for assistance.

When you are pregnant and your stomach finally starts expanding go buy yourself some comfortable maternity clothes. Your going to be pregnant for the next several months, so you might as well be comfortable. This also makes sure that you don?t have to keep buying new clothes as you continuously expand.

Keep a record of how much weight you gain. Pregnant women are going to gain weight, but too much can be difficult to lose after the baby is born. On the other hand, not gaining the correct amount of weight can be dangerous for the baby?s development. Knowing what your weight is from week to week can help you make sure that you are on track for a healthy pregnancy.

When you are in the later stages of pregnancy, especially in your third trimester, try not to travel too much. Some women think that because their due date is a month away, they will not go into labor on the train or plane, only to find themselves delivering their child with no medical assistance.

Pay attention to your body, and don?t write strange things off as simply symptoms of pregnancy. For example, swelling of the joints and face is common during pregnancy, but excessive and sudden swelling can herald pre-eclampsia. If you notice any symptoms that seem strange or haven?t been mentioned as expected by your doctor, give them a call.

Jason Russell, Kony 2012 Video Creator, Arrested For Drunken Masturbating in Public

Jason Russell, the man behind the now-famous Kony 2012 video, was arrested in San Diego today for masturbating and being drunk in public apparently.

Russell was taken into custody by San Diego cops, according to reports.

In addition to allegedly masturbating, officials say that the Kony 2012 creator vandalized cars. Must have been some kind of epic bender he was on.

UPDATE: Video has surfaced of Russell in the midst of his naked meltdown in San Diego,  pounding his fists in anger and screaming maniacally.

Witnesses say he was running around naked and making sexual gestures.

Russell was held on a 5150 psychiatric hold, so authorities can decide if he poses a danger to himself or others. A rep says Russell was suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition as a result of a strenuous PR campaign.

United States of Motherhood: Family Sunday Brunch Traditions ...

We have a long tradition of Sunday brunch at this house. Now that time has passed, add in the sport of competitive swimming with appetites like locusts. Locusts, I tell you, and suddenly ten waffles are never enough.

You think your teenager eats a ton? I'm right there with y'all now.

I just cannot keep enough food on the table. Yep, our family of five usually requires TRIPLE batches of pancakes, waffles, and French toast. We will not count the quarts of syrup all under the auspices of carb-loading. Add into that equation that the pool my kids compete at has an IHOP right down the street. Finally, the invention of something you might know as Eggo waffles which my kids call snarf-down-as-many-as-you-can-fit-in-your-mouth-waffles until they are gone, just add to the ridiculous nature of mothering kidlets. A box usually lasts about an hour upon discovery in our freezer. Soooo you do the math.

Yep, my kids blood supply is half syrup on the weekends!

Speaking of syrup, I cannot tell you how thrilled my kids were when this showed up on our doorstep:

Suddenly, this mom was getting a lot more RESPECT around the Scouty household. My kids mostly think I "play" on my laptop all day. However, getting these goodies in the mail highly upgraded my status to "Queen of the Syrup."

Yep, our very own briefcase of syrup from the IHOP at Home? collection. Yes, yummy IHOP goodness.

So when we got the briefcase mid-week, our Sunday brunch plan was blown to bits. No WAY were we waiting DAYS to use it.

Can we say breakfast for dinner night? However, this was no frozen waffle night. This was fluffy, homemade pancakes night.

My husband was the pancake chef, and the kids were impressed with a meal of scrambled eggs, warm buttery hot cakes, and, of course, loads of sticky, sweet doses of IHOP at Home? Original syrup for dinner. Yum! The kids were super excited!

Brinner! Brinner, my friends, on the night I had no idea what to cook, and it was my turn to drive the swim carpool. Snap!

Even better? I left my husband with syrup collection, spatula, and pleading to make us brinner, and I was set!

Ummm hello? Anyone else getting ideas that most of our husbands can make pancakes? Put'em to work!

Seriously, my husband loves to cook, so it was not a hard negotiation. I know, I know, I'm lucky! I still think my pancakes are better, but shhhh, don't tell him. I don't want my brinner chef to go on strike!
